Summary/Abstract: The author of the article, drawing on official documents and bibliographic sources published both in Romania and in NATO member states, highlight a number of key aspects of operational medicine. His analysis underscores the need to identify and implement ways to expand the army's hospitalization capacities in the event of a major crisis, such as an armed conflict affecting our country or other allied states. This need stems from the fact that the existing military medical infrastructure could become insufficient or even overwhelmed in the face of a large number of wounded or sick combatants. In this context, the author examines both the resources available within the National Health System and the potential additional hospitalisation capacities offered by private economic operators, presenting their typology, the number of places available and their geographical distribution. The author also analyzes the health system reform strategy adopted by the Romanian Government in 2025, focusing on the financial effort that the state will have to make to care for the wounded and sick, to modernize and equip hospitalization capacities in accordance with NATO standards, and to train medical personnel. Given that human resources are currently insufficient, the importance of adequately training medical personnel is emphasized, so that they can effectively respond to the care needs of both combatants and the civilian population affected by the consequences of combat operations.
