Summary/Abstract: This article examines the last months of the life of Pencho Slaveykov and Mara Belcheva spent in Italy and ending with the death of the poet in Brunate in 1912. It regards them through the prism of a little-known memoir source – Memories of Pencho Slaveykov by Olga Gyuzeleva. The study aims to introduce this document into scientific circulation, to situate it in the context of the existing testimonies (correspondence, diaries and memoirs of contemporaries) and to assess its factual and interpretive value for the reconstruction of the so-called “Brunate Episode”. The article traces the chronology of the events surrounding the stay of Slaveykov and Belcheva in Italy, focusing on the discrepancies and contradictions in the different witness accounts. Particular attention is paid to the insider perspective of Gyuzeleva as a relative and a direct participant in the tragic days after the poet’s death. Through a comparative reading of the available sources, the article argues that Gyuzeleva’s memoir has a great significance in the corpus of testimonies relating to the last period of Slaveykov's life.
