Summary/Abstract: This study presents the results of research conducted in 2020–2021 at the fortified ensemble of Viscri, focusing on the church and its defensive structures. During the investigation, systematic observations were made on the roof structure and the standing elevations, which were then correlated with written sources and verified through dendrochronological analyses. The ensemble consists of the centrally positioned Evangelical church and two defensive enclosures of differing height and preservation: an inner, higher enclosure (i1), flanked by towers and bastions, and an outer, lower enclosure (i2), preserved only in part. The latter borders the cemetery area to the southwest and includes at its southern end the former guardhouse (Burghüterhaus), now serving as a tourist reception point. Based on the surviving remains, the outer enclosure appears to have functioned more as a spatial boundary and organizational element than as an effective defensive line, structuring access routes and mediating the relationship between the fortified precinct and the surrounding village.
