Summary/Abstract: This essay aims to put into light two documents issued by Pope John XXII in 1331, who imposed penalties on some clerics from the Kingdom of Hungary (especially from Transylvania), who were found guilty of debts. We underline the fact that Holly See deprived these clerics of the right to appeal against these sanctions. This study highlights the fact that Pope John XXII delegated to the Pontifical Nuncios the power to excommunicate the clerics incriminated for not paying the tithes. The Pontiff also imposed limitations on the right to appeal against the excommunication. We analyze different doctrinal and legal terminology issues that can be found in these documents. Ultimately, we refer to the cases in which the Pope, under certain conditions, exercises his power to absolve certain clerics from the sentence of excommunication.
