Summary/Abstract: The text presents an analysis of the influence of Roman law on the Lithuanian Statutes, which formed the legal foundation of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 16th century. The author shows that the reception of Roman law was neither direct nor universal, but rather selective and functional. Roman law was not formally adopted but served as an inspiration during the drafting of the statutes, especially in civil and criminal law. These influences are evident in legal terminology, structure of the provisions, and legal reasoning. The main channel for the transmission of Roman legal concepts was legal literature and the education of Lithuanian jurists at Western universities. The article portrays the Lithuanian Statutes as a modern, original legal system that creatively assimilated elements of Roman law in accordance with local traditions and needs.
