Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the experiences of people with mental health difficulties, which are highlighted through creative methods (e.g., journaling, photovoice, drawing). The traditional medical approach, which focuses on symptoms and diagnoses, overlooks people’s strengths. However, creative methods used in the study support personal recovery and help people express their feelings, needs or wishes. The study applies participatory creative research principles and highlights how creative practices support meaning-making. The study revealed the role of creative methods in facilitating self-expression and making sense of experiences. This research shows that a creative approach gives individuals control over their own narrative and helps them construct a new identity. In addition to individual benefits, creative practices also strengthen social connection. Based on the results, the conclusion is that creative methods are not only flexible and accessible tools for data collection but means to promote mental well-being on both a personal and community level, promoting empowerment and a sense of belonging.
