The health - illness Opposition in Polish and English Political Discourse

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to explore the differences and similarities in the conceptualisation of two important concepts: health and illness in Polish and English political discourse. The study focuses on describing the opposition of these two categories, as discourse often uses this dichotomy to introduce polarisation within the constructed worldviews. Owing to its strong evaluative aspect, health and disease metaphors are frequently used to create media images and to legitimize or delegitimize the politicians' actions. The analysis is based on lexical and corpus data drawn from Polish and English media.
