The apostolate of the Redemptorists in the Tarnów diocese during the pilgrimage of the copy of the Miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa in 1969

Summary/Abstract: The celebration of the pilgrimage of the copy of the Miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa is one of the most important events in the history of the Catholic Church in Poland in the 20th century. This extraordinary pastoral program of the Church in Poland was based on the far-reaching assumptions of the Great Novena program created by the Primate of the Millennium, Blessed Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. In this study, the author presents the history of the first pilgrimage of the copy of the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa in the Tarnów Diocese in 1969, as well as the pastoral ministry of the Redemptorists in the spiritual preparation and implementation of the pilgrimage ceremonies. Among the topics addressed is the surveillance of the clergy, including Redemptorists, and lay participants in these events by officers of the Security Service and its secret collaborators.
