Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the topic of reinterpreting St. Padre Pio's dark night as an attempt at theological narrative. By contrasting the hermeneutics of St. John of the Cross with the modern psychological reductionism, the author seeks to interpret the phenomenon of the dark night using Kevin Fauteux's description. A narrative based on the dialogue between theological experience and psychological description does not necessarily have to reduce theological discernment to psychological diagnosis. The mystery of Christ, present in the frail human body, may require analysis on the human level in order to facilitate subsequent spiritual discernment. Due to the complexity of the issue, the study was conducted interdisciplinarily through an analysis of selected correspondence of St. Padre Pio.
