On Jan Lorentowicz’s literary criticism of the works of Władysław Stanisław Reymon

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to Jan Lorentowicz’s critique of the works of Władysław Stanisław Reymont, written and published between 1898 and 1925. It attempts to present the process by which Lorentowicz’s thesis – asserting the writer’s natural, innate talent – became established. The text also addresses the question of why, in the 1930s, the critic changed his attitude toward the writer and his work.
