Summary/Abstract: This article presents a comparative study of investigative journalism from seven countries in the Eastern European region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine). It aims to detect organizational trends and compare the state of investigative journalism in the countries of the region, torn by a major armed conflict, oppression, and aspirations for more freedom. It presents an inventory of major challenges facing investigative journalism in the two groups of states of the region based on their attitude to free media. In this regard, it points to the relationship between investigative journalism and democracy in Eastern Europe, focusing on the issue of accountability of those exposed in the media.
