Summary/Abstract: With the advancement and widespread integration of artificial intelligence across all areas of society, education is no exception. In the field of foreign languages, oral skills often pose the greatest challenges, as students lack sufficient knowledge and are reluctant to speak in front of the class. This article explores how AI can support teachers in improving students’ oral skills in specialized French classes. While collaborative work remains important, AI is currently the most engaging and motivating method for students, as it aligns with their interests. We therefore examined several well-known and widely used chatbots. This study focused on their ability to engage in spoken French, as well as their capacity to act as a teacher, by providing immediate corrective feedback on pronunciation and oral production during various exercises. We reviewed the oral activities offered by a range of chatbots or applications (ChatGPT, Copilot Microsoft, Perplexity AI, Gliglish, Duolingo, Mondly) and evaluated the quality of the guidance they provide, in order to promote a genuine improvement in learners’ oral expression in French.
