Summary/Abstract: One of the unsolved mysteries of Reymont’s biography is his acquaintance with Antonina Szczygielska, whom he probably met in Skierniewice in 1893. The anonymous letters kept in the Ossolineum Library were considered by Barbara Koc to be written entirely to Szczygielska, which turns out to be incorrect. This article takes up the topic of Reymont’s relationship with Szczygielska, which – according to previous researchers – was even an engagement. By illuminating the research task with new sources and arranging the facts entered in Reymont’s notebook notes, the attributions, dates, personal and local identifications are questioned.
