Summary/Abstract: The stage in which education in Poland is currently located should be described as transitional. It is a state that has been in a kind of suspension since the political transformation. The centralized system with the prevailing doctrine of adaptation was officially overthrown at that time. However, in Polish schools, the principles related to democratic doctrines are still not fully implemented. The characteristic features of Polish education are chaos and confusion. The basic accusation that education (not only in our country) encounters is its dysfunctionality. T. Lewowicki indicated several features that should guide the qualitatively new educational policy, which in a democratic society should reflect the needs of citizens. The texts developed by Tadeusz Lewowicki - especially "Idee przemian oświaty [Ideas of educational transformations]" - are still an extremely accurate interpretation of how educational policy should be implemented in Poland, because one of the basic conditions for carrying out effective educational transformations is the introduction of a rational educational policy. T. Lewowicki indicated seven main ideas of transformations that should change this negative image of school.
