Summary/Abstract: The appropriateness of including appendage Wielkopolski in the name of Gorzów was subject to public consultation, most recently in 2024. The aim of this work is to attempt to answer the question: Does the geographical character of Gorzów’s location entitle the city to a name without an additional element, and its inhabitants to identify with the place solely on the basis of its location? It was assumed that the city of Landsberg was founded over 760 years ago mainly due to its location, and that this is not currently appreciated as unique to the city – therefore, it is not a sufficient element to build the identity of the inhabitants living on their piece of land. The analysis covered the collected literature on the subject, specialized maps of various scales and periods of reflection, as well as the year of publication. The results of our own field research were also taken into account. The paper describes the geographical location of the city, indicates geographical features common to Greater Poland (Wielkopolska), as well as distinct features resulting from the city’s location. It also points out the unique advantages of Gorzów’s location, including its landscape, which builds sightseeing needs, and the legitimacy of naming the city withouta geographical component
