Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to elucidate the nature of the creative use of allegory in Baroque Protestant school drama of Slovak provenance through an analysis of the representative school play Eleazar constans (“Eleazar, Unwavering in Faith”), performed in Prešov on 18 October 1668. Its author, Eliáš Ladiver the Younger (1633–1685), ranks among the most significant Evangelical Lutheran playwrights of the Baroque period in the territory of present-day Slovakia. The study critically engages with the existing findings of domestic historiography, seeking to extend foundational research on the subject by characterising one of the central features of early modern Protestant dramatic and theatrical production, which has long been marginalised in domestic art-historical discourse and calls for systematic reassessment and integration into a synthetic history of Slovak drama and theatre.
