Summary/Abstract: For four decades, Zdena Studenková (b. 1954) has been one of Slovak cinema’s most prominent actresses. Renowned for her portrayals of fateful, passionate, and problematic women, she has established a significant presence across theatre, film, and television. This study focuses on the first two decades of her career, which unfolded during the period of normalization. Through characterization of the dramaturgy and an analysis of her performances, the author seeks to demonstrate that the commonly held view of the Slovak National Theatre’s drama as “dull” derives from an overly narrow and stereotypical perspective on this period in Slovak theatre history.
