Summary/Abstract: This study discusses the theatrical and educational activities of the Puppet Theatre at the Crossroads in Banská Bystrica (PTAC) from the late 1990s to the present from a developmental and comparative perspective. The theatre began to pursue these activities intensively following the arrival of dramaturge Iveta Škripková and director Marián Pecko. In their Programme Guidelines of the Puppet Theatre at the Crossroads (1990), they formulated the core pro-social and humanistic principles of theatre-making that have shaped the concept of the theatre’s artistic and educational activities in the long run. Today, PTAC boasts s a track record of many types of educational projects of national significance, of both informal and formal nature. The distinctiveness of this institution lies in the fact that, for many years, it was the only professional theatre in Slovakia to engage systematically and in great diversity in theatre education for audiences of all ages. The study also highlights the specificities of PTAC’s educational concept, which include not only its alternative approach to traditional puppetry techniques but also its consistent promotion of pro-social, humanistic, and inclusive principles, together with the incorporation of new theatrical forms into both artistic and educational productions.
