The scientific status of cultural education - a subdiscipline in the making

Summary/Abstract: In the article, methodological issues are discussed of cultural pedagogy, once treated as a pedagogical doctrine, and in the 21st century as a scientific subdiscipline. The determinants of high cognitive status are such elements as: a separate subject of research, the own lexical base, separate research methods and techniques, scientific institutions, professional reviewers of texts and scientific achievements. Another important factor is the theoretical and methodological self-awareness of researchers declaring their affiliation to the discipline of knowledge. These factors were referred to as analytical categories in cultural pedagogy in the 21st century in Poland. This pedagogical subdiscipline is located at the crossroads of several other areas of humanistic and social knowledge. It draws abundantly from the achievements of philosophy of culture, because it emerged from it, from aesthetics, cultural studies, sociology of culture, psychology of creativity and intercultural pedagogy. Yet, cultural educators always emphasize their specific point of view on educational values of doctrines and ideas promoted by researchers of basic sciences, such as sociologists or psychologists. They provide new knowledge, which becomes the subject of reflection for cultural educators and methodologists of disseminating culture.
