Summary/Abstract: In 1989, political and social changes took place in the territories of the former Soviet Union. On the wave of regaining independence in the countries annexed by the Land of Soviets, the Polish national minority became active, gaining a chance to recreate Polish schools, which existed in independent Latvia before the war. Six Polish institutions were opened, which developed their activities, "stumbling over" the problems that were posed to them along the way, changing the education law, or limiting finances from municipal budgets. Of the six Polish schools established, three have already been closed. The text presents the history of the Polish school in Krasław, describes the hope accompanying the uprising and the effort of the school organizers and the determination of the local Polish community, looking for support for this initiative on both sides of the border. For many years, there was a struggle to attract students, to collect funds, first for renovation, then expansion and maintenance of the unprofitable institution. However, it turned out that this long-term effort was in vain. The school was closed in 2024, only documents and memories remained.
