Summary/Abstract: Lexical constructions belonging to the language of the school, formed on the basis of Latin lexemes, attested in the Saxon dialects of Transylvania With the implementation of the Reformation in Transylvania—almost simultaneously with its introduction in the country of origin, in the first half of the sixteenth century—a reorganization of the educational system also took place. For the pupils of the German Pedagogical Normal School, instruction in Latin became compulsory. Various texts were read in Latin, and thus the teaching of Latin grammar began, followed by grammatical exercises. Curiously, until the mid‑nineteenth century, German literary reading and writing were systematically practiced in German schools, while the spoken language remained the Saxon dialect. This situation explains the formation of certain lexical constructions, presented and analyzed in the present study. They are less common in the Transylvanian Saxon dialects, but since they are rooted in the Reformation in Transylvania—both linguistically and culturally‑historically—their value remains indisputable. The lexemes come from the Dictionary of the Saxon Dialects of Transylvania and the Dictionary of the Saxon Dialects of Northern Transylvania, and thus from Saxon dialect literature as well as from specialized scholarship.
