Summary/Abstract: Since challenges, risks, and threats transcend national borders, it is necessary to establish police cooperation at higher levels. Therefore, international police cooperation represents an important aspect of the security policy of nation-states. The central focus of this paper is the analysis of international police cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Serbia. This specific modality of cooperation is part of the complex process of Serbia’s accession to the European Union. However, it is important to emphasize that the absence of full membership does not exclude international cooperation, which de facto already exists. The paper analyzes the progress achieved so far in the process of European integration and the significance of implementing the EU accession chapters for Serbia’s full membership, with particular emphasis on Chapter 24 – “Justice, Freedom, and Security,” which plays an important role in shaping the state’s security policy. Within this chapter, special attention is devoted to international terrorism and organized crime, which are recognized as primary global challenges both at the international level and in the strategic documents of nation-states. Their phenomenology and trends are examined, while at the same time other aspects on which international police cooperation is based are also defined, such as illegal migration, asylum, and visa policy.
