Forfeiture of the benefit of the term under the regulation of the Civil Code

Summary/Abstract: The early maturity of a contractual obligation may also occur as a result of forfeiture of the benefit of a suspensive term established in favor of the creditor. Since forfeiture generally constitutes a civil sanction, the cases in which forfeiture occurs cannot be applied by analogy to other situations; however, the possibility is not excluded that the parties may, by agreement, extend the scope of application of forfeiture of the benefit of the term.
