Nature Conservation in the Communes of the Łódź Region Based on the Example of the Uniejów Commune

Summary/Abstract: Competency changes of the administrative bodies involved in establishing certain types of nature conservation objects have provided the communes solely with legislative powers relating to the establishment and invalidation of the four individual forms of nature conservation. Based on the existing data, we assessed and compared the effectiveness of the communes in establishing the respective forms of nature conservation before and after the legislative changes (up to 2009 and after 2010). Till now, 24 protected objects have been established under the Nature Conservation Act within the jurisdiction of the Uniejów commune, including 19 objects representing individual forms of nature conservation. Areas under protection now cover 49.5% of the commune. After 2010, four new nature monuments have been established. In this article, three new sites are proposed as individual forms of nature conservation and nature reserve.
