Summary/Abstract: Known as the "periodicity" and "correspondence" (A De Groot) or as the "alternation" and "recurrence" (W. Kayser), the rhythm of prosodic unities in a single verse line and the rhythm in a series of verse lines which correspond in their syntactic form or the number of their linguistic components (syllables, stressed syllables etc.) are usually seen as the same phenomenon. The basic assumption of this article (explaineu in chapter I) is that there are important differences between two sorts of the verse rhythm, including their ability to appear independently and play the principal role in some metrical systems. The author works out this idea in an elaborate discussion of the difference between the two verse rhythms, considering their morphology (ch. II), their linguistic material (ch. III) and their distribution in various prosodie systems from quantitative to modern free verse (ch. IV, V).
