Summary/Abstract: The present study examines two choral works by Anton Bruckner that are rarely included in the standard repertoire, Trauungschor WAB 49 and Zur Vermählungsfeier WAB 54. The analytical approach begins with the literary sources chosen by Bruckner, starting with the two Austrian poets contemporary with the composer, Franz Isidor Proschko and Heinrich Wallmann. A survey of Bruckner’s oeuvre reveals the place occupied by these two choruses within the composer’s output—an artist raised and formed in the Catholic rite, deeply rooted in the Beethovenian tradition and influenced as well by the Wagnerianism of his time. Details concerning the creative context and the intended function of these choral miniatures reveal their role in fostering social cohesion. The score analysis highlights the relationship between text and music, beginning with persuasive repetitions of key words from the poetic text and continuing with timbral and writing choices that underscore enduring connections with church‑music tradition and with Romantic choral writing. The harmonic design of the choruses, though elaborated in different ways (more direct in Trauungschor, more sinuous in Zur Vermählungsfeier), anchors its structural pillars in third‑based harmonic relations; yet a detailed examination of the harmonic fabric—still grounded in tonality—brings to light neo‑Renaissance modal colors. The study concludes with a discussion of the contemporary reception of these two choruses, a phenomenon that clarifies the limited popularity of this repertoire for male choir, typically approached by specialists. As illustrative examples, the study refers to personal interpretations offered by The Hilliard Ensemble and Philipp Sonntag.
