Summary/Abstract: The article examines Nikola Georgiev’s approach to intertextuality, situating it within the legacy of Bulgarian structuralism through its emphasis on the autonomy of literature and intraliterary dialogism. First, I consider the differences between the concept of intertextuality as introduced by Julia Kristeva and its transformation within the Bulgarian context under the sign of “silent dialogues”. Next, I explore the limitations of Georgiev’s model of intertextuality, which tends to focus on canonical works and relatively neglects contemporary authors. Galin Tihanov’s concept of “regimes of relevance” is invoked to clarify why Georgiev’s intertextual framework largely avoids examples from the contemporary literary scene. Finally, I regard as particularly productive – owing to its capacity for resistance and its function as a counterpoint – Georgiev’s idea of thinking of Bulgarian literary studies as a heterotopia.
