Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the different typologies of readers and books, as well as on the ways in which readers’ opinions are understood, before delving into the multidirectional influences that occur between authors, publishers, critics, media, social networks, and readers. All these actors are part of a competitive literary field that has its own rules. In the latter, complex processes take place, with each of the aforementioned agents act with different interests and different channels and degrees of influence. The status of these agents who are often involved in competitive struggles – from authors to publishers, critics, the media, social networks, and readers – is losing its former institutional status and presumed professionalism. The observations offered on the current situation in Bulgaria, which is following global trends at varying speeds, show that the literary field is not a frozen hierarchy. On the contrary, it is a dynamic system in which the “labels” of criticism often diverge from the real authorities of readers. Moreover, intermediaries do not simply convey messages but actively create new boundaries of the literary.
