Summary/Abstract: Autonomy and separatism have always been seen as a kind of threat to the sustain‑ability of the state. That`s why, particulary in the 20th century, many states wrotethe rigor of protecting their territory into their constitution. But in the 21st century, autonomy and separatism have turned out to be one of the tools of influence of samestates, for example Russian on other countres. This influence has destructive impactnot only on the internal cohesion of states, but also on the existing internationalorder. Modern Russia seeks to rebuild its political influence in the countries that wereonce part of the Soviet Union, so it uses every opportunity to do so. Autonomy andseparatism are one such form. Of interest to Russia are those countres that do nothave a strong traditon of statehood, such as Ukraine or Georgia. In the face of suchstates, Russia also uses subversion, which often forces the adoption of unfavorablechanges for its territorial stability.
