Summary/Abstract: European integration needs new impulses. This also applies to the European Union.Nowadays, there is a clear decline in libertarian and democratic ideas, and the im‑portance of sovereign member states is diminishing in favor of the development offederalist concepts. The vision of a superstate, especially pushed forward by Franceand Germany, harms the interests of, among others, Central Europe, including Poland.The article aims to outline several unfavorable practices enforced in the EU and togive examples of possible ways to reverse the trends dominating at the level of Eu‑ropean technocrats. A return to integration based on sovereign states, following theassumptions of the Founding Fathers, may have a positive impact on the continent’scompetitiveness and quality of life for Europeans.
