The European Union in the context of migration and crime: the example of the Federal Republic of Germany

Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this article, as part of a broader study, is to examine the correlation between immigration to the Federal Republic of Germany and increased crime, with particular emphasis on individuals from countries in the Middle East and Africa. The research was based on an analysis of documents from German statistical institutions, Eurostat, and other independent organizations conducting such research. The period chosen for the analysis was 2013-2019, as it falls between the onset of the migration crisis and the COVID‑19 pandemic. The main goal of the article was to examine the prevailing public opinion that there is a correlation between immigration and increased crime. The primary method adopted in the analysis was a content analysis of documents and reports issued by German statistical offices, independent institutions conducting such research, and German state security agencies.
