Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the issue of uncleanliness and dirt as elements of the image of Polish cities in the light of selected archival sources from the years 1950-1970. Municipal facilities such as water and sewerage networks, sewage treatment plants, rubbish dumps, hotels, municipal baths, and public toilets were examined. The sources for these studies were mainly archival documents from state institutions and inspection bodies.
