Summary/Abstract: The article analysed the aspect of functioning of mills as part of the goods of the monastery of Canons Regular of St. Augustine in Żagań until the beginning of the 16th century. The work uses materials from the State Archive in Wrocław, the Archdiocesan Archive in Wrocław, and information contained in the chronicle of the monastery of Żagań. The author pays special attention to retracing the ways in which the abbey gained possession of mills and the amount of income which the monastery derives from owning the property. Another important aspect discussed in the work is an attempt to compare financial gains, especially rent in money which the community of Żagań received from mills and a comparison to the situation in other medieval monasteries. A conducted analysis indicates that rents in money and rents in kind received from the users of these machines were an important supplement to the abbey of Żagań's source of income and the main function of the mills was grinding grain delivered to them from the monastery-owned folwarks.
