Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the use of art reproductions in education and research in the context of limited access to originals. The theoretical section presents key concepts: Walter Benjamin’s aura, Gregory Currie’s transferability thesis, and the phenomenon of „facsimile accommodation,” which allows viewers to focus on artistic values despite medium limitations. A review of empirical studies confirms that originals evoke stronger emotional reactions, are better evaluated and remembered. Museum context significantly enhances aesthetic experience. The author conducted an eye-tracking study with students, comparing the perception of two contemporary paintings viewed in a museum and as digital reproductions. Results showed that originals received higher aesthetic ratings, particularly for work already highly valued. Oculographic analysis revealed different viewing strategies. Each has its advantages that can be utilized in education and research. The findings thus indicate the complementarity of both forms of presentation. Reproductions offer controlled research conditions and systematic analysis, while originals provide a fuller emotional experience. What becomes essential is the conscious utilization of each medium’s specific advantages rather than choosing between them.
