Summary/Abstract: The article presents, within the context of democratisation of memory, forms of remembrance of the experiences of the population of the Polish Eastern Borderlands and of Poles in the East set up within the boundaries of Jelenia Góra after the socio-political changes of 1989. Analysis of the contents, the space, and the context of creation of these places of remembrance all indicate how significantly the shaping of the memories of experiences of Siberia, Katyn, and Volhynia have been changing across the last 30 years. Established forms of remembrance are linked not only to specific experiences of any group of people but also, more widely, indicate the need for cooperation and collective memory of the experiences of Poles in the Eastern Borderlands in the Second World War, especially now. The text is also an attempt to demonstrate the local dimension of historical policy and activities of various entities aimed towards the creation of collective memory: non-governmental organisations, local authorities, and religious communities.
