Summary/Abstract: The article presents terminological and definitional problems related to the issue of the Russian national formula. The trajectories of national evolution, its characteristic features and identity imponderables are examined. The Soviet policy of ethnic creationism in the context of the contemporary idea of the Russkiy mir is analyzed. The presented study is a fragment of the author's research project conducted in Estonian Eastern Vironia (Est. Ida-Virumaa). The material is collected using the ethnographic method in cycles of several months since 2012 among Russian residents of the Lake Pejpus area. The research being carried out does not have a specific end date - it is conducted in the formula of repeated seasonal presence, placed between participant observation and participant participation. Insights are gained into perceptions of the world and Estonian neighbors, as well as understandings of their own Russianness.
