Summary/Abstract: Contemporary history teaching faces a series of challenges. Research shows that the level of historical knowledge of Polish youth is low, globalization causes cultural differences, rituals and customs to transform or even disappear. This raises questions about the goals and methods of transmitting historical knowledge, which has always been considered a significant factor in shaping a sense of national identity, especially important for the Polish state due to its complex historical fate. An analysis was conducted of nation-building methodologies in educational primers (18th-20th century) and 20th century literature, with the aim of inspiring modern history education practices - especially through the integration of comparable didactic tools (including illustrations and brief narratives) into history teaching.
