Summary/Abstract: The history of wine and its consumption spans more than eight thousand years, and since the dawnof civilization this beverage has been present both in culture and in medical practices. A special placeis occupied by the reflections of Pliny the Elder in Naturalis Historia, where wine and vines are analysed from both agronomic and medical perspectives. The author describes numerous therapeutic propertiesof grapes, their derivatives, and wine itself—ranging from anti-inflammatory effects to the support of digestion and circulation, as well as antiseptic functions. At the same time, he emphasizes the ambivalent nature of the drink, which can serve as both a remedy and a source of harm in cases of overuse. The ultimate conclusion highlights the importance of moderation – wine, like other gifts of nature, remains beneficial only when consumed thoughtfully and in proportion.
