Summary/Abstract: Language plays a crucial role in shaping gender roles and social identity. The aim of this study is to analyze the linguistic mechanisms that shape or reinforce social gender roles, with particular emphasison the role of feminatives in language. An analysis of the literature, including J. Butler’s theory and the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, shows that the structure of language, and in particular the asymmetry in the naming of professions and functions, can reinforce traditional gender patterns. The media, literature, and public space play an important role in shaping perceptions of professions and social roles. The increasing use of feminatives and growing linguistic awareness point to the evolution of language towards greater inclusiveness, confirming that language not only reflects social reality but also co-createsit, becoming an important tool in efforts to promote gender
