Summary/Abstract: The heavenly horse (天马) gifted to Emperor Yuan Shundi by the Pope sparked a wave of creative works among Yuan dynasty scholars, in which heavenly steeds were praised. Poems and prose from the period reveal the widespread adoption of new concepts such as the seven seas (七海). This is linked to the expansion of Central Asia–China communication routes and increased intercultural contact under the Mongol Yuan era, which led to religious and cultural synthesis. The concept of the seven seas, brought to China by Alanian (阿速人) and Nestorian (也里可温) Christians, merged with the longstanding literary tradition of the heavenly horse, creating a semantically rich form of expression.
