Summary/Abstract: When looking for ways to reflect on and understand anxiety, a problem that is particularly relevant in today‘s society, it is useful to examine how Christian anthropology approaches this issue. To this end, this article examines the work of two 20th-century German authors from different denominations and cultural backgrounds: Peter Wust and Paul Tillich. Both authors analyse the phenomenon of anxiety in detail, discussing its causes and forms. They consider anxiety to be an integral part of human nature because humans are contingent beings created ex nihilo. Both authors distinguish three stages of anxiety, categorised by the ways in which humans are threatened by non-existence. The analysis presented in the article not only reveals the remarkable similarity between the two authors‘ views, but also demonstrates that Christian anthropology provides an excellent foundation for overcoming anxiety.
