Summary/Abstract: This article presents the linguistic image of homeland in the lyric poetry of Władysław Milczarek. The analysis of the lexical and stylistic material demonstrates that the poet perceived homeland as aninternally complex, multidimensional concept, i.e. a real, spatial construct and a metaphorical, communal one. The spatial image is created, among others, through a series of near-synonyms which imply territorial community: ojczyzna [homeland] // ziemia [land] // Rzeczpospolita [the Republic] // tam [there], as well as stylistic figures constructed with these lexemes. The communal vision of homeland, in turn, entails spiritual, cultural, and, above all, emotional unity. This dimension is depicted by the poet through references to Slavic origins and religious motifs. The state community is sketched through references to military and railway structures rebuilt after 123 years of foreign rule.
