Semantic-etymological analysis of street names in the Hamburg-Neustadt district of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg

Summary/Abstract: The article consists of two parts. The first presents a historical outline of the Hamburg-Neustadt district. The second part presents a semantic and etymological analysis of the district’s street names. The analysis is based on the Kwiryna Handke model, which has been modified. The analysis included 118 street names from the Hamburg-Neustadt district. The modified model is presented, in which subcategories have been added for specific and insightful categorization. The subcategories are presented hierarchically from the highest to the lowest number of occurrences. Their source of origin is given next to the street name.
