Summary/Abstract: Pre-Christian customs have survived to now days, after centuries or even almost two millennia of Christianity north of the Danube, glued to Christian dogma through the Holy Tradition of the Church. It is hard to believe that the rural collective memory has preserved ancient customs and traditions for millennia and has kept them intact. The year-round customs in the north of the historical counties of Argeș and Mușcel have been the subject of numerous ethnographic and ethnological studies that have revealed true folklore treasures that have helped us to sketch the image of the respective society from more than a century and a half ago. Also, the understanding of Christian holidays by the rural area is observed from the way the cross-shaped altars are built, but also from the way in which liturgical scenes or images of saints are painted by local craftsmen.
