Summary/Abstract: Sergei Rachmaninoff’s life story and musical legacy paint a portrait of an exceptional artist, straddling the boundary between late Romanticism and the early modernism of the 20th century. Although influenced in his youth by Russian Romantic masters such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninoff developed his own compositional language, characterized by expansive melody, rich harmonies, rigorous musical architecture, and a profound inner lyricism. His refusal to align himself with the avant-garde currents of the era was not the result of stylistic rigidity, but of a firm conviction that musical expression must serve the inner truth of emotion. In an era marked by aesthetic fragmentation and formal experimentation, Rachmaninoff remains an exponent of continuity and artistic authenticity. His music often reflects states of nostalgia, melancholy, or introspection, without resorting to artifice or excessive rhetoric.
