Summary/Abstract: The creative proces (in music, in other arts, more broadly in every creative activity) mobilizes a multiplicity of faculties, knowledge, skills, potentials, and other assets and facets of the one who creates (or all of them when creativity comes to its ownmost), in a manner and with the outcome not very well understood by the creator involved. This not‑ withstanding, this essay will underatke this self-explicatory task, the most obvious result being its heterogeneity. Indeed, without engaging with biographical, theoretic-analytic, psychological and psychoanalytic, aesthetic and ontological spheres, no account of the composer’s work could be nearly satisfactory. The essay purposfully highlights the polarized/ polarizing aspects of creative work; contradictions between autonomy of music and its connectedness with all other phenomena; transcendence and immanence; the conscious and unconscious; narcisim and omnipotence accompanying the creative act, but at the same time the feeling that I am not in charge, and that some impersonal, pre-individual forces take control of the process. These juxtaposed moments are sometimes complementary, sometimes resolved in a higher synthesis or exposed as false opposites, but sometimes they are disclosed as genuine paradoxes which is, in all likelihood, an inevitable ingredient of creativity (perhpas part of its allure).
