Summary/Abstract: In Orthodox spirituality and worship, the icon holds a central place, constituting a bridge between heaven and earth, between the visible and the invisible. It embraces at once two essential dimensions: on the one hand, the liturgical role—the icon integrated into the Church’s worship, within the liturgical space and the order of the services, possessing a sacramental and pedagogical function; on the other hand, the spiritual role—the icon present in the believer’s personal life of prayer, in their homes and in their hearts, as a support in prayer and a means of communion with the prototype it represents.
