Summary/Abstract: This article explores the role of extracurricular education in developing key competences among primary school pupils, within the framework of contemporary European educational policies. Grounded in the competence-based approach promoted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union (2018), the study highlights the contribution of non-formal and extracurricular activities to fostering communication, social, civic, entrepreneurial, digital, and cultural competences. The paper emphasises the complementary relationship between formal and non-formal education, arguing that extracurricular activities create meaningful learning contexts that stimulate creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and emotional development. Through thematic projects, creative workshops, competitions, performances, digital initiatives, and family–school partnerships, pupils are provided with opportunities to explore their talents, strengthen self-esteem, and acquire practical life skills. Special attention is given to project-based learning models implemented in primary education, including literacy workshops, environmental exploration, entrepreneurial clubs, artistic activities, science experiments, and digital literacy initiatives. The article also underlines the importance of social and emotional development, demonstrating that participation in extracurricular activities enhances pupils’ self-perception, social integration, and academic success.Ultimately, extracurricular education is presented as an essential dimension of lifelong learning, contributing to the holistic development of children and supporting their integration into a dynamic and knowledge-based society.
