Summary/Abstract: Immersive journalism employs technologies like VR, AR, and 360° video to embed audiences within news events, fostering presence, and direct experience. This study explores its potential and key ethical challenges. While offering possibilities for deeper understanding and empathy, critical issues emerge regarding truthful representation versus manipulation (e.g., viadigital reconstruction), the psychological impact of intense content on viewers, the nuanced effectiveness of empathy generation(while avoiding superficial emotional reactions or narrative bias), and technological accessibility. Analysis of pioneering works and case studies highlights these tensions. Ethical vigilance and evolving standards are crucial for responsible development.
