Summary/Abstract: This paper examines a critical reconstruction of the biography of the renowned sixteenth-century waqf founder in Mostar, Keyvan Kethuda (Ćejvan Ćehaja). The research focuses on a tradition recorded in a Mostar manuscript, according to which Keyvan Kethuda was a freed slave of Sinan Pasha—a piece of information that has thus far been neglected or dismissed as unreliable in previous historiography. The aim of the paper is to substantiate the authenticity of this claim on the basis of newly discovered archival material and, through an analysis of this corpus, to accurately identify the pasha in question. The paper argues that the figure cannot be Sinan Pasha Borovinić, the early-sixteenth-century sancak-bey of Herzegovina, as commonly referenced in the literature, but must instead be Kapudan Sinan Pasha, the brother of Grand Vizier Rustem Pasha and of Karađoz Mehmed-bey, the well-known waqf founder in Mostar. The corpus examined includes primary sources such as manuscript data, the original waqf deeds of both Keyvan Kethuda and Sinan Pasha, as well as documents from the Istanbul court registers. The study seeks to correct previous historiographical inaccuracies and to offer a more firmly grounded biographical portrayal of this significant waqf founder in Mostar.
